Florence Ballard, born on June 30, 1943 in Detroit, Michigan, was a founding member of the legendary 1960s Motown group The Supremes. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988.
Ballard managed to get an audition at Motown through her friend Smokey Robinson before rising to fame with hits such as “Pretty Baby,” “Baby Love,” and “The Ballad of Davy Crockett.”
Her family had moved to Detroit so her father could work in the city’s thriving auto industry.
