About Flannery O’Connor
Flannery O’Connor was an American writer born on March 25, 1925 in Savannah, Georgia. She was known for her contribution to Southern Gothic fiction, particularly through her 1952 novel Wise Blood and the short story collection A Good Man Is Hard to Find published in 1955. In recognition of her work, she received the U.S. National Book Award for Fiction in 1972.
Prior to gaining fame as a novelist, O’Connor attended the esteemed Iowa Writers’ Workshop at the University of Iowa, honing her craft and developing her unique literary voice.
A notable fact about O’Connor is that she was diagnosed with lupus in 1951 and given only five years to live; however, she surpassed this prognosis and lived for another fourteen years.
O’Connor grew up as the only child of Regina Cline and Edward O’Connor in Savannah, Georgia.
