About Federica Mogherini
Federica Mogherini, born on June 16th, 1973 in Rome, Italy is an Italian politician and member of the Democratic Party. She has held significant roles including Vice-President of the European Commission and President of the Foreign Affairs Council High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
Mogherini studied Political Science at Sapienza University of Rome where she wrote her final dissertation on Islam and politics. Her political career began as a member of the Italian Communist Youth Federation in 1988, eventually becoming a member of the National Council of the Democrats of the Left in 2001. In May 2008, she became a member of the Chamber of Deputies before gaining attention as Italy’s Minister for Foreign Affairs in 2014.
In addition to her political career achievements, Mogherini was awarded an honorary doctorate degree from the University of Tampere in 2018 and received the Hessian Peace Prize in 2017.
She was born and raised in Rome to film director and set designer Flavio Mogherini. In 2007, she married Matteo Rebesani with whom she has two children.
