About Fahmida Mirza
Fahmida Mirza is a Pakistani politician who made history by becoming the first female Speaker of the National Assembly, which is the lower house of Parliament of State of Pakistan, in 2008.
She was born on December 20, 1956 in Pakistan and initially trained as a doctor at Liaquat Medical College, Jamshoro, Sindh. Prior to her political career, she operated an advertising agency.
Before entering politics, she worked in gynaecology and pediatrics before joining the Peoples Party in 1997.
Mirza’s family includes her nephew Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq, who has served as a three-time Provincial Sindh Minister and is currently a member and leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party.
