About Evelyn Boyd Granville
Evelyn Boyd Granville, born on May 1, 1924 in Washington, DC, United States, is a prominent mathematician. She is known for her contributions to IBM and the United States Space Technology Laboratories as one of the first women of African heritage to earn a mathematics Ph.D. from an American university.
Granville’s academic journey began at Dunbar High School in Washington D.C., where she graduated as valedictorian. She went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree from Smith College in Massachusetts before earning her Ph.D. in mathematics from Yale University.
In addition to her accomplishments in industry, Granville has also held teaching positions at Fisk University, California State University Los Angeles, and the University of Texas at Tyler.
She was raised by her aunt and mother in Washington D.C. and continues to be recognized for her pioneering work in mathematics.
