About Esther Forbes
Esther Forbes (June 28, 1891) was an American fiction writer, children’s author, and historian known for her work in young adult literature. She gained widespread recognition for her 1943 novel “Johnny Tremain,” along with other notable works such as “A Mirror for Witches” (1928) and “Paul Revere and the World He Lived In” (1942).
Born in Westborough, Massachusetts, Forbes pursued her education at Bradford Academy before continuing with various courses at the University of Wisconsin. In 1919, she embarked on a career in the editorial department of Houghton Mifflin Company.
Notably, Forbes received both the Pulitzer Prize and the Newbery Medal during her lifetime. In 1926, she married attorney Albert Hoskins.
