Erma Bombeck, born on February 21, 1927 in Bellbrook, Ohio, was a renowned journalist known for her humorous and relatable take on homemaking. She gained fame as a syndicated columnist and authored several bestselling books centered around family life, including If Life is a Bowl of Cherries, What Am I Doing in the Pits? and Motherhood: The Second Oldest Profession.
Prior to her successful career as a writer, Bombeck supported herself through college by crafting humor pieces for a local department store’s newsletter. In 1967, she published At Wit’s End, which compiled many of her popular columns.
In 1949, Bombeck married Bill Bombeck and the couple went on to adopt a daughter in 1953 before having their biological son in 1955.
