Erica Watson (February 25, 1973 – February 27, 2021) was an American comedian, actor, writer and director. Born in Chicago, Illinois, she is best known for her roles in TV shows such as The Chi and Empire. Additionally, she appeared in films including Chi-Raq, Top Five and Precious.
Before gaining fame in the entertainment industry, Watson’s first acting credit came in the 2006 film Dirty Laundry. She was also a contributing writer for the Huffington Post and used her stand-up comedy to address important issues such as size acceptance and racial and gender stereotypes.
Tragically passing away at the age of 48 due to complications from COVID-19, news of Watson’s death was shared by her brother on Facebook.
