Emmeline Pankhurst Feet
Emmeline Pankhurst, born on July 14, 1858 in Manchester, England, was a prominent political figure and leader of the British suffragette movement. She played a pivotal role in securing women’s right to vote in England and was recognized as one of the 100 Most Important People of the 20th Century by Time Magazine.
Pankhurst founded the Women’s Social and Political Union, an all-female activist organization dedicated to advocating for women’s voting rights. Known for her militant tactics and direct action protests, she was frequently arrested for property damage during demonstrations and embarked on hunger strikes while in prison.
In 1878, Pankhurst married Richard Pankhurst, who shared her passion for political causes. Together they had five children – two sons and three daughters.
