Emma Thompson, born on April 15, 1959 in London, England, is a renowned movie actress. She achieved critical acclaim by winning the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role as Margaret Schlegel in the 1992 film Howards End. Additionally, she secured an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for Sense and Sensibility (1995), a movie she also starred in. Thompson’s impressive list of film credits includes Dead Again, Much Ado about Nothing, Nanny McPhee, Love Actually and Stranger than Fiction.
Prior to her success in acting and screenwriting achievements, Emma Thompson was involved with the Newnham College sketch comedy troupe Footlights. She became its first female member and later served as vice president while co-directing the group’s first all-female revue titled Women’s Hour.
Thompson has also dabbled in various other roles throughout her career. In 2004, she portrayed Professor Sybill Trelawney in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban; additionally casting as Mrs. Potts in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast released in 2017 along with playing Agatha Trunchbull in Matilda: The Musical.
