About Emma P. Carr
Emma P. Carr (born July 23, 1880) was an American biologist known for her work as a spectroscopist and her pioneering use of ultraviolet spectra of hydrocarbons.
She made significant contributions to the field by establishing a connection between the frequencies of absorptions and the enthalpy change of combustion in various compounds.
Prior to gaining renown for her scientific achievements, Carr started her career at Mount Holyoke College as an assistant in their chemistry department.
In recognition of her groundbreaking work, she became the first recipient of the Francis P. Garvan Gold Medal from the American Chemical Society in 1937.
Carr was born as the third child to Edmund and Anna Carr in Ohio.
