About Emily Wilson
Emily Wilson is an English professor and classicist, known for her work as a literary reviewer for The London Review of Books and The Times Literary Supplement. She was born in England on September 28, 1971, to parents A. N. Wilson and Katherine Duncan-Jones. Her sister, Bee Wilson, is a renowned food writer.
Prior to her fame as a scholar, she studied philosophy and classical literature at Balliol College, Oxford before obtaining her Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from Yale University. Some of her notable scholarly works include Mocked with Death: Tragic Overliving from Sophocles to Milton (2004) and The Death of Socrates: Hero, Villain, Chatterbox, Saint (2007).
In 2006 she was awarded the prestigious Rome Prize for her contributions to classical studies.
Aside from academia and criticism she has also worked in other roles including teaching.
