About Emily Remler
Emily Remler (September 18, 1957 – May 4, 1990) was an American jazz guitarist who gained widespread acclaim during the 1980s. Known for her contributions to hard bop, jazz standards, and fusion guitar, Remler released seven albums throughout her career.
Born in New York, Remler began playing guitar at the age of 10 and later attended Berklee College of Music from 1974 to 1976. It was there that she honed her craft and was influenced by jazz legends such as Herb Ellis, Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass, Pat Martino, Charlie Christian,Miles Davis,and John Coltrane.
After college, Remler moved to New Orleans where she performed in blues and jazz clubs with various bands including FourPlay and L’il Queenie and the Percolators.
She notably played on a Gibson ES-330 given to her by her brother. During the early ’80s, she married Jamaican jazz pianist Monty Alexander before divorcing in 1984.
