About Emily Maitlis
Emily Maitlis is a Canadian-born journalist born on September 6, 1970. She gained recognition as a former newsreader for the One O’Clock News before becoming the main presenter of Newsnight in 2006.
Prior to her broadcasting career, Maitlis studied at Queens’ College, Cambridge where she learned to speak Spanish, Italian, and French. In addition to her work on Newsnight, she has also appeared on BBC News 24, the BBC Weekend News, and the BBC News at Ten O’Clock.
Maitlis has two children with banker Mark Gwynne.
