About Elmira Gafarova
Elmira Gafarova (born March 1, 1934) is a politician from Azerbaijan who was a member of the Communist Party and served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan SSR from 1983 to 1987. She has been honored with the Order of the Red Banner of Labour and the Order of Honor for her contributions to public service.
Gafarova earned a Ph.D. in Philology from Azerbaijan State University in 1961 and later went on to serve as the Speaker of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan from 1990 to 1992. She was raised with her siblings in Baku, Azerbaijan.
