Ellie Greenwich was a songwriter born on October 23, 1940, in Brooklyn, New York. She is best known for her work as a lyricist, with popular songs including “Be My Baby,” “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home),” and “River Deep-Mountain High.”
Prior to her music career, Greenwich attended Queens College and Hofstra University.
In 1991, she was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Greenwich married Jeff Barry in 1962 before they divorced in 1965.
