About Ellen McLain
Ellen McLain (born December 1, 1952 in Nashville, Tennessee) is a renowned voice actress known for her work in the Portal video game series where she voiced the character GLaDOS. Her career also includes voicing characters in Half-Life 2, Team Fortress 2 and Pacific Rim. In 2011, she won the Spike Video Game award for Best Performance by a Human Female.
Outside of her voice acting career, McLain teaches voice in children’s theater programs and is an accomplished opera singer who performed “Still Alive” and “Want You Gone” for the Portal series.
McLain attended The North Carolina School of the Arts as well as The New England Conservatory in Boston where she earned a master’s degree before beginning her career.
In addition to her professional life, Ellen McLain is married to fellow voice actor John Patrick Lowry since 1986. She is also active on Twitter with around 20,000 followers using her @ellenmclain account to promote sales of memorabilia and upcoming projects.
