About Ellen Axson Wilson
Ellen Axson Wilson was born on May 15, 1860 in Savannah, Georgia. She was a political wife and the First Lady of the United States from 1913 until her death the following year. Ellen dedicated much of her time to charity work and advocated for improving housing conditions in Washington, D.C.’s slums.
Prior to her role as First Lady, Ellen attended New York University and pursued a career as an artist. She met Woodrow Wilson, her future husband and President of the U.S., when she was just an infant.
Tragically, Ellen passed away while Woodrow Wilson was still in office due to complications from Bright’s disease.
