About Elizabeth Batts Cook
Elizabeth Batts Cook was born on February 4, 1742, in London, England. She is best known as the wife of the renowned explorer James Cook, whom she married in 1762. Despite his untimely death in 1779, Elizabeth chose never to remarry.
Prior to her marriage to James Cook, Elizabeth’s father Samuel Batts served as a mentor to her future husband and was also the keeper of the Bell Inn at Execution Dock in Wapping.
Elizabeth and James had several children together: George, Hugh, Joseph, Elizabeth (named after her mother), and James Cook. After her passing, she was laid to rest at St Andrew the Great in Cambridge, England.
