About Elisabet Ney
Elisabet Ney (1833-01-26) was a German sculptor, known for her prominent works found in Texas, Washington D.C., Italy, England, and Germany. Some of her famous sculptures include depictions of Lady Macbeth, Stephen F. Austin, and Sam Houston.
Before gaining fame as a working artist around the world Elisabet Ney faced opposition from her parents when she pursued a career in sculpture in 1852. Despite this obstacle she went on to become the first female student at the all-male Munich Academy of Art.
Ney’s work includes sculptures of famous leaders such as King George V of Hannover and Otto von Bismarck while also having made contributions across Europe and even marrying Edmund Montgomery on November 7th 1863.
