Elaine Mason Feet

Elaine Mason, born on August 20, 1951, in England, is known for her role as the second wife of renowned physicist Stephen Hawking. Initially working as a nurse and caregiver for Hawking in the 1980s, she captured widespread attention following their marriage at the Cambridge Register Office in 1995. Notably, her first husband was David Mason, an engineer who contributed to developing Hawking’s speech synthesizer.

Prior to gaining public recognition through her relationship with Hawking, Elaine had worked at an orphanage in Bangladesh. She and her first husband have two sons together; additionally, she became stepmother to Hawking’s children – Robert, Lucy and Timothy. Interestingly though their relationship lasted eleven years before they filed for divorce in 2006 amidst allegations of abuse towards Hawking; however no charges were brought against her by police.
