About Eileen Gray
Eileen Gray (born August 9, 1878) was an Irish architect known for her notable designs including the Tempe a Pailla and E-1027 houses in Southern France. She also gained recognition for creating iconic furniture pieces such as the E-1027 Table and the Bibendum Chair.
Prior to her architectural career, Gray received training as a painter at University College London’s Slade School of Fine Art. She was born Katherine Eileen Moray Smith to Baroness Eveleen Pounden and artist James McLaren Smith in southern Ireland. Throughout her life, she had various relationships with both men and women, with singers Marie-Louise among her lovers.
Gray passed away in her Paris apartment shortly after celebrating her ninety-eighth birthday.
