About Edna Ferber
Edna Ferber was a Pulitzer prize-winning novelist, born on August 15, 1887 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She is best known for her work “Show Boat,” which was adapted into a popular Broadway musical in 1927. Her other notable works include “So Big,” “Cimarron,” and “Giant,” all of which were adapted into award-winning motion pictures.
Prior to gaining literary fame, Ferber briefly studied at Lawrence University before starting her career as a reporter for the Milwaukee Journal and The Appleton Daily Crescent. She published her first novel, “Dawn O’Hara,” in 1911.
Ferber’s novels often feature characters from the American Midwest who experience significant cultural and technological changes over time. She is especially renowned for creating strong female characters.
