About Dorothy Parker
Dorothy Parker was born on August 22, 1893, in Long Branch, New Jersey. She was a prolific poet, screenwriter, critic and short story author who gained recognition for her wit and sharp writing style.
Parker’s notable works include “Enough Rope,” “Sunset Gun,” and “Star Light, Star Bright,” which were published in the New Yorker magazine. Before gaining fame as a writer, she received her education at a Catholic school in New York City before selling her first poem to Vanity Fair magazine in 1914. Soon after that success she was hired as an editorial assistant for Vogue.
Notably part of the Algonquin Round Table literary circle in New York City during the 20th century, Parker had strong connections with other influential writers and critics of her time.
She was born Dorothy Rothschild and later married Alan Campbell twice; their second marriage ended sadly with Campbell’s suicide in 1963.
