Donna Leon (born September 29, 1942) is an American-born crime novelist and university professor. She is best known for her series of detective novels featuring the character Guido Brunetti.
Leon published her debut Brunetti novel, Death at La Fenice, in 1992. Despite the Venice setting of her books, she requested that none of them be translated into Italian.
Prior to her literary career, Leon taught literature in Italy at the University of Maryland’s European branch after leaving America.
