Donda West was an influential figure and the late mother of renowned rapper Kanye West. She was born on July 12, 1949 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and initially pursued a career as a professor of English at Clark Atlanta University. Donda later became involved in managing her son’s career before her untimely passing in 2007 due to complications from a breast reduction surgery.

Her tragic death prompted Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to enact the “Donda West Law,” which mandates patients to undergo medical clearance for voluntary cosmetic surgeries. Donda’s former husband, Ray West, was a former Black Panther and photojournalist for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
