DJ Cocoa Chanelle, born on August 10, 1971 in Brooklyn, New York, is a renowned DJ and radio personality. She gained fame through her work on HOT 97 and KISS FM in New York City, as well as her six-year stint on the BET show Teen Summit and appearances on Rap City and 106 & Park.
Chanelle’s journey into music began at a young age when she started working as an MC at just 12 years old. By the time she was 13, with encouragement from her late brother, she transitioned to becoming a DJ. Her talents also extend to music production and remixes – one of which was notably featured in the film Precious.
Despite facing personal tragedies early in life – losing both parents to alcoholism and her brother Andre to a shooting shortly before joining HOT 97 – Chanelle persevered. She was raised by her grandmother in West Virginia after these losses but found solace and success through her passion for music.
