About Dionne Quintuplets

The Dionne Quintuplets were the first set of quintuplets to live past infancy, born in Canada on May 28, 1934. The five identical sisters gained worldwide fame as a result of their unique situation. Their names were Emilie Marie Jeanne, Marie Reine Alma Dionne, Yvonne Edouilda Marie, Annette Lillianne Marie and Cecile Marie Emilda.

Unfortunately, two of the quintuplets passed away at young ages; Emilie died at age twenty from a seizure and Marie Reine died at thirty-five due to a blood clot. Yvonne also passed away in her late sixties after battling cancer. As of 2014, Annette and Cecile were still alive.

Before gaining fame, their father agreed to showcase them at the Chicago World’s Fair. This led to government intervention where The Dionne Quintuplet Guardianship Act was passed making them wards of the state throughout their childhood. In 1943 this decision was reversed and they were returned to their birth family.

The attending physician who delivered them, Dr Allan Roy Dafoe became internationally famous as a result of their birth

Born into the Dionne family with five older siblings and three younger ones in Ontario Canada, they made lasting impact on history through their extraordinary story.
