About Diane Judith Nash
Diane Judith Nash was born on May 15, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois. She is a notable civil rights leader known for her activism during the Civil Rights Movement.
Nash played a pivotal role as a co-founder of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and led the first successful campaign to de-segregate lunch counters in Nashville in 1960.
Before gaining recognition for her civil rights work, she was also the runner-up for Miss Illinois.
In addition to her contributions to de-segregating lunch counters, Nash also played a crucial role in the Freedom Rides to desegregate travel and the Selma Campaign which ultimately contributed to voting rights for African-Americans.
Nash married James Bevel and later divorced him. They have two children named Sherri and Douglass.
