Diane Hegarty, born on July 10, 1942 in California, is a prominent religious leader known for her role as the founder and High Priestess of the Church of Satan. She gained notoriety through her compilation and editing of many key doctrines within the church, including The Devil’s Notebook, The Satanic Bible, and The Satanic Witch.
Prior to her involvement with the Church of Satan, Hegarty served as Chair of San Francisco’s Graphological Society for ten years. Her influence within the church led to its scrutiny during the fundamentalist Christian-spurred Satanic Ritual Abuse panic of the 1980s.
Notably, Hegarty had a relationship with Anton LaVey – co-founder of the Church of Satan – which lasted over two decades. Their union resulted in a daughter named Zeena; later on they would also raise their grandson Stanton Zaharoff together.
