Diahann Carroll, born on July 17, 1935 in The Bronx, New York, was an African-American actress who gained fame for her leading role in the groundbreaking sitcom Julia. In the late 1960s, she became one of the first female African-American stars in the film industry.
Before her rise to stardom, Carroll began modeling at age 15 for Ebony magazine. She later played Dominique Deveraux on the hit series Dynasty and received multiple Grammy, Oscar, and Golden Globe Award nominations throughout her career. Notably, she won a Golden Globe in 1969 for Best TV Star in Julia.
Carroll married three times before tying the knot with Monte Kay in 1956 and had a daughter named Suzanne.
