About Dawn Steel
Dawn Steel was born on August 19, 1946 in New York. She was an entrepreneur and became known as the head of Columbia Pictures, breaking barriers by becoming one of the first women to run a major motion picture studio.
Prior to her rise in the film industry, she worked as a merchandising director for Penthouse Magazine and also managed her own novelty-item business. In 1978, she joined Paramount Pictures where she made significant contributions such as producing successful films like Fatal Attraction, Top Gun, and Flashdance.
Following her stint at Paramount Pictures, Dawn took over leadership at Columbia Pictures but after several years of financial losses she left to establish her own company called Atlas Entertainment.
Born Dawn Spielberg (no relation to Steven Spielberg), her family name was later changed to Steel by her father.
