Corazon Aquino, born on January 25, 1933 in Manila, Philippines, was the first female President of the Philippines from 1986 to 1992. She rose to power as a key leader in the People Power Revolution that ousted the authoritarian regime of President Ferdinand Marcos and restored democracy in the country.
Prior to her political career, Aquino was proficient in multiple languages including English, Tagalog, Kapampangan, and French. Time magazine recognized her as its Woman of the Year in 1986. The following year she played a pivotal role in drafting the constitution that reinstated the bicameral Congress in the Philippines.
She had been married to Senator Benigno Aquino Jr., who was assassinated in 1983.
