About Connie Stokes
Connie Stokes is a Democratic Party politician, born on September 3, 1953 in Georgia. She began her political career by representing Georgia’s forty-third district in the State Senate before taking office as DeKalb County Commissioner in 2004. Stokes graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business from Georgia State University and went on to earn her Master of Public Administration from California State University, Dominguez Hills.
In 2014, she ran for Lieutenant Governor of Georgia but was defeated by Casey Cagle. Stokes grew up in poverty with an alcoholic mother and was primarily raised by her great-grandmother in Atlanta. Later, she settled in Lithonia, Georgia with her husband and became a mother to three boys.
