About Claudia Emerson
Claudia Emerson was an American poet born on January 13, 1957, in Virginia. She is best known for winning the Pulitzer Prize in 2006 for her collection of poems titled Late Wife. Some of her other notable poetry collections include Pinion, An Elegy; Figure Studies; and Secure the Shadow.
Prior to gaining recognition as a poet, Emerson obtained an undergraduate degree in English from the University of Virginia followed by an MFA in creative writing from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro.
Emerson served as the Poet Laureate of Virginia from 2008-2010 and grew up in Chatham, Virginia. In the year 2000, she married musician Kent Ippolito.
