Claudia Alencar, born on July 12, 1950 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, is a renowned TV actress who has also made her mark as a poet, writer, and artist. With an impressive career spanning over 25 plays, 30 television shows, and ten films, she has also published five books – two plays and three poetry collections. In 2003, Claudia launched her own line of jewelry.
Before achieving fame as an actress and artist, Claudia’s writing career took off at the age of 14 when she won the national short story contest organized by Correio da Manha newspaper. Later on, she earned her bachelor’s degree in theatre from the School of Communication and Arts at the University of Sao Paulo.
Notably outspoken against censorship and torture practices during the Brazilian military regime in its early years following establishment in mid-20th century Latin America politics culminated with activism towards political liberation whereas joining National Liberation Alliance marked a significant turning point for Claudia who was subsequently arrested while teaching at Oswaldo Aranha College in 1972. She was imprisoned for twenty days where she endured brutal torture alongside colleagues.
