About Cid Ricketts Sumner
Cid Ricketts Sumner was an American novelist born on September 27, 1890 in Mississippi. She is most recognized for her novels “Quality” and “Tammy Out of Time,” both of which were adapted into films.
Before gaining fame as a novelist, she attended Millsaps College and Columbia University before completing one year of medical school at Cornell University. In her personal life, she was married to James B. Sumner, who won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1946.
Despite her literary success, Cid Ricketts Sumner’s life ended tragically when she was murdered by her grandson at the age of eighty.
