About Cicely Hamilton
Cicely Hamilton was an English feminist and playwright, as well as a prominent figure in the suffrage movement. Born on June 15, 1872 in England, she is best known for her acclaimed play “Diana of Dobson’s,” which premiered in 1908.
Prior to gaining recognition for her feminist-themed plays, Hamilton worked as an actress with a touring theatre company and also pursued a career in teaching. Notably, she co-founded the Women Writers’ Suffrage League in 1908.
Hamilton’s legacy extends beyond her creative work; she gained prominence as a lesbian feminist during a time when LGBTQ+ issues were not widely discussed or accepted by society.
