About Christina Rossetti
Christina Rossetti was a British poet known for her famous works “Goblin Market” and the poem-turned-Christmas carol “In the Bleak Midwinter.” Born on December 5, 1830, in England, she was the daughter of an Italian political exile. Rossetti had three siblings who were also writers.
She experienced a nervous breakdown at the age of fourteen and subsequently became a devout Anglo-Catholic. Despite being engaged multiple times to artists James Collinson and John Brett, as well as linguist Charles Cayley, she ultimately decided against marriage.
Rossetti’s complete poems were compiled in three volumes and published posthumously between 1979 and 1985.
