China Anne McClain, born on August 25, 1998 in Atlanta, Georgia, is an American TV actress and singer. She first gained recognition for her role as Jazmine in Tyler Perry’s House of Payne. In addition to acting, she also released the Billboard Hot 100 song “Calling All the Monsters” and won the 2014 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Performance for her work in Disney’s A.N.T. Farm.
McClain is also known for portraying Uma in Disney’s Descendants series and has starred in The CW’s Black Lightning since 2018. Her career began at a young age when she was cast in the movie The Gospel after a music executive discovered her singing talent at just seven years old.
In addition to her acting career, McClain played Gabby Harrison in the 2014 Disney TV movie How to Build a Better Boy. She comes from a musical family; her father is music producer Michael McClain and her mother is Shontell McClain.
