Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, born on September 15, 1977 in Enugu, Nigeria, is a renowned novelist. She gained recognition with her debut novel Purple Hibiscus which earned the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize for Best First Book. Her second novel Half of a Yellow Sun was adapted into a film featuring Academy Award nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor.Prior to her literary success, Adichie had a collection of poems published in 1997 titled Decisions. She also received accolades such as the BBC Short Story Award for That Harmattan Morning and the O. Henry Prize for The American Embassy.In 2010, she was included in The New Yorker’s “20 Under 40” issue highlighting the best young authors. Adichie married Ivara Esege and divided her time between the U.S. and Nigeria.
