About Catherine Ndereba
Catherine Ndereba is a marathon runner often considered one of the greatest ever. She was born on July 21, 1972, in Nyeri County, Kenya.
She gained recognition by winning silver medals at consecutive Olympics: in 2004 in Athens and again in 2008 in Beijing.
Prior to her fame, Ndereba trained while attending Ngorano Secondary School and made her international debut as a runner in 1995.
In addition to competing internationally, Ndereba has had several personal successes. In 2000, she won both the Boston Marathon and the Chicago Marathon. In 2005, she became the first woman to win the Boston Marathon four times.
Outside of running, Catherine Ndereba married Anthony Maina and welcomed their first child June in 1997.
