About Carolyn Forche
Carolyn Forche, born on April 28, 1950 in Michigan, is a poet and human rights activist known for her acclaimed works such as Blue Hour and The Angel of History. She has received prestigious accolades including the Los Angeles Times Book Award and the Griffin Poetry Prize. Prior to gaining recognition as a poet, she attended Michigan State University and Bowling Green State University. Forche’s debut poetry collection, Gathering the Tribes, won the 1976 Yale Series of Younger Poets Competition.
Aside from her literary endeavors, Forche has also contributed articles to publications such as The New York Times and The Washington Post. She currently resides in Maryland with her photographer husband Harry Mattison.
