Caroline Chisholm was a 19th-century English humanitarian known for her advocacy of the welfare and rights of female immigrants in Australia. Born on May 30, 1808, in England, she became a prominent civil rights leader. In 1834, Chisholm founded the Female School of Industry for the Daughters of European Soldiers after witnessing the poverty and hardships faced by wives and daughters of British soldiers.
She married Captain Archibald Chisholm at the age of 22, who worked for the East India Company.
