About Carol Greider
Carol Greider, born on April 15, 1961 in California, is a renowned molecular biologist noted for her discovery of the enzyme telomerase in 1984. Her groundbreaking work earned her the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine in 2009 for demonstrating that progressive shortening of telomeres is prevented by this enzyme.
Greider grew up in Davis, California and has two children named Charles and Gwendolyn. In recognition of her contributions to science, she was elected as a member of both the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences in 2003.
