About Carlotta LaNier
Carlotta LaNier (born December 18, 1942) is remembered as one of the first African American students to walk onto the campus of Little Rock Central High School. She was the youngest member of the famous 1957 “Little Rock Nine” and in 1960 became the first African American female graduate of the high school.
Before making civil rights history, she attended a segregated Arkansas school called Dunbar Junior High School. After graduating from Central High School, she went on to attend Michigan State University and ultimately earned a degree from Colorado State College.
In the late 1970s, LaNier began a decades-long career in real estate. Born Carlotta Walls in Little Rock, Arkansas, she later settled in Englewood, Colorado with her husband Ike LaNier and her daughters Brooke and Whitney.
