Carla Thomas, born on December 21, 1942 in Tennessee, is an American soul singer known for her work in the 1960s and 1970s. With a career spanning several albums, she earned the title of “Queen of Memphis Soul.” Prior to her fame, she joined WDIA radio station’s musical group Teen Town Singers at just 10 years old. Notably, she achieved success with the release of a duet album alongside Otis Redding that garnered popularity in Great Britain. Hailing from a musical family—her father Rufus was an emcee for Palace Theater’s shows and her siblings Marvell and Vaneese are also musically inclined—Thomas left a lasting impact on the soul music genre.
