About Bongiwe Msomi
Bongiwe Msomi is a South African netball player and the captain of the South African national netball team, also known as the Spar Proteas. She was born on January 19, 1988, in South Africa.
In 2004, at the age of 16, while attending Chief Luthayi High School in Durban, Msomi started her netball journey. Her leadership skills were evident from an early stage when she stepped in as a substitute during her inaugural match to take up the role of wing defense due to the team being one player short.
Msomi has represented her country in various international competitions and has played a significant role in promoting netball and inspiring young athletes in South Africa. Known for her leadership on the court, she is recognized for her contributions to the sport of netball.
Outside of playing and leading on the court, Msomi is also involved with initiatives to elevate the status of netball. She is notably behind the Bongi Msomi Netball Project, a non-profit initiative focused on fostering comprehensive growth among coaches, players, children, and athletes.
Born and raised in Durban’s Hammarsdale area, Msomi comes from a large family with eight siblings; she holds the position of fifth amongst them. Notably, one of her younger sisters participates in provincial netball.
