Birgitte Hjort Sorensen was born on January 16, 1982 in Hillerod, Denmark. She is a Danish TV actress best known for her role as Katrine Fønsmark in the television series Borgen. Sorensen made her American film debut as the antagonist Kommissar in Pitch Perfect 2 and also appeared in the HBO series Vinyl in 2016.
Before pursuing acting, Sorensen was inspired by a trip to see Chicago in the West End as a child and subsequently attended the Danish National School of Theatre. Her first television credit came soon after, and she starred as Roxie Hart in the musical that initially sparked her passion for acting.
