Bernadette Peters is a stage actress born on February 28, 1948 in New York City, New York. She has had an extensive and successful career on Broadway, winning Tony Awards for her performances in Song and Dance (1985) and the 1999 revival of Annie Get Your Gun. Peters has also starred in Into the Woods, Sunday in the Park with George, and Gypsy.
Peters began her career at a young age, appearing on television shows such as Juvenile Jury and Name That Tune before her sixth birthday. By the age of nine, she was already a member of the Actors Equity union.
She made her Broadway debut as an understudy for a production of The Girl in the Freudian Slip in 1967.
Peters dated actor Steve Martin from 1977 to 1981 before marrying Michael Wittenberg over a decade later. Tragically, Wittenberg died in a helicopter accident in 2005.
